Digital Law
Counsel.
Every growing organisation runs into the same challenge sooner or later: legal questions become more frequent and more complex, but hiring a full-time lawyer is a significant step. One-off support no longer works at that point, because explaining the context each time costs time you don’t have.
The Digital Law Counsel gives you a dedicated legal professional who works alongside your team, gets to know your organisation in depth, and thinks ahead with you. That means you get someone who truly understands your files and the way you work.
- One dedicated point of contact
- Guaranteed capacity
- Fully integrated into your team
Many organisations already trust CRANIUM.
You’re in good company.

What is the Digital Law Counsel?
The Digital Law Counsel is a structural legal partnership, in which one dedicated professional joins your team on a regular basis.
By agreeing on a working rhythm of alignment and focus work together, you stay in control of priorities and your files keep moving forward. Your legal professional always knows what’s going on, flags risks in good time, and builds up lasting knowledge of your organisation. That way, you never have to start from scratch.
Think of it as a lawyer becoming part of your team, without having to hire one yourself.
Who is this service for?
The Digital Law Counsel is built for organisations that:
- have a constant stream of legal work (rather than one-off, incidental questions, in which case take a look at the Digital Law Desk)
- need a dedicated expert and point of contact who knows the organisation and its context inside out
- have a long-term project, such as an AI Act, CRA or NIS2 track, that needs ongoing follow-up
- have no budget or need for a full-time internal hire, but do need continuity
- find traditional staffing too expensive or too slow: by working in fixed blocks of hours on a set rhythm, our expert works faster and more cost-efficiently
Whether you’re a legal counsel looking for extra support, or an organisation without an in-house legal department, the Digital Law Counsel gives you that dedicated legal partner without the cost of hiring one yourself.

How does Digital Law Counsel work?
01 – Kick-off
We start with a thorough conversation about your organisation, your priorities and the way you work. Together, we set out the practical arrangements.
02 – Alignment and focus work
We organise the project in blocks of hours (min. 4h/week), with at least two fixed blocks per week: alignment and focus work.
Alignment: our legal professional goes through the priorities, open questions and what’s ready to discuss with your SPOC or team.
Focus work: they then get to work: drafting contracts, formulating advice, progressing files, negotiating…

03 – Evaluation
Your account manager regularly reviews how the collaboration is going, and adjusts the capacity as soon as your needs change.

How fixed blocks of hours really keep your files moving? Here’s how that works in practice.
For example, with Service Pack Upgrade 2, we set a fixed weekly rhythm: block 1 (alignment) on Monday, block 2 (focus work) on Tuesday, and block 3 (focus work) on Friday.
And how does it work in practice?
Monday (alignment)
During the weekly check-in, you discuss a new supplier partnership. The contract has just come in, and your SPOC flags it as a priority.
Tuesday (focus work)
The expert starts the review straight away. They notice an essential annex is missing, request it from the supplier immediately, and work through the rest of the review in the meantime.
Thursday
The supplier delivers the missing annex.
Friday (focus work)
The expert reviews the annex and completes the full review.
Monday (alignment)
The expert talks the team through the findings during the check-in. Your team can move straight ahead again.
The result: momentum from the start, with no waiting for a traditional consultant’s next “on-site day”. Our focus blocks keep your files moving continuously, delivering a faster turnaround at a lower cost.

Frequently asked questions.
What does working with a Digital Law Counsel actually involve?
You get one dedicated counsel who works with your team on a structural basis. Throughout the collaboration, that expert builds up ever deeper knowledge of your organisation.
Don’t need a single fixed point of contact, but do have regular legal questions? Then the Digital Law Desk might be a better fit for you.
How does this service differ from the Digital Law Desk?
The Digital Law Desk is built for one-off, ad-hoc questions: you get in touch when something comes up, and a consultant from a wider pool picks up the file. The Digital Law Counsel is built for a different kind of workload: one dedicated expert, fixed capacity, and structural follow-up on your files.
What type of legal support can you offer?
Can the Digital Law Counsel handle direct communication with internal stakeholders or vendor negotiations?
Absolutely. Your Digital Law Counsel acts as an extension of your team: in consultation with your SPOC, they can join internal meetings, communicate directly with department heads, and take part in negotiations with external suppliers or partners.
To support important negotiations as well as possible, we also build in flexibility: if the expert’s schedule allows, we can simply move the weekly focus block to fit.
Can the Digital Law Counsel also handle international contracts or cross-border matters?
Yes. At the start of the collaboration, we look at the type of work you expect, so we can assign an expert who matches that profile. Is international negotiation a key part of the role? Then we bring in an expert with experience in that area. Language matters here too: if your context calls for work in French or English, we make sure the expert is fluent in those languages.
Our experts are naturally well versed in European and international legal frameworks, but should specific local expertise be needed, our expert can also draw on an international network of local partners, in consultation with you and with your agreement.
What if our Counsel comes across a highly specific legal issue outside their own domain?
Your counsel remains your fixed point of contact, but is always backed by the wider expertise within CRANIUM. For a niche question, they can effortlessly bring in internal specialists or draw on targeted senior support.
How long does an average collaboration last?
The minimum duration is one month. Most clients choose three, six or twelve months. We always aim for a long-term partnership with our clients: that fits naturally with the purpose of the Digital Law Counsel, where building lasting knowledge of your organisation and ensuring continuity are central.
How does a project come to an end?
Your account manager reviews the collaboration and volume together with you, and agrees the best way forward: extending, scaling up or down, or switching to a different model. If you end the collaboration, your legal professional makes sure all files and documentation are handed over cleanly to your internal team or SPOC.
Can we adjust the collaboration if our needs change?
Absolutely. You can switch to a different Service Pack at the start of a new month, and absorb temporary peaks if the schedule allows. Your account manager reviews this with you on a regular basis.
What happens if we don't use all our hours in a month, or if we need extra hours?
The minimum hours in your Service Pack are billed monthly to guarantee your capacity. Unused hours expire at the end of the month, though you can shift them within that month if your expert’s schedule allows.
Your expert discusses workload weekly during the alignment moment. We consider going up to 20% above the minimum hours a normal workload peak, which your expert absorbs flexibly as long as the schedule allows. To fully cap your budget, we can optionally agree a strict maximum. If the workload looks set to structurally exceed this, your expert flags it proactively, so your budget always stays clear and predictable.
How does the Counsel handle conflicting priorities or urgent requests from different departments?
All incoming requests go through your SPOC, who sets priorities together with your legal professional during the fixed alignment moments. If an urgent matter comes up, your expert reshuffles the focus work in consultation with your SPOC, so critical risks are addressed quickly without the budget spiralling out of control.
What happens if our legal professional is ill or on holiday?
CRANIUM makes sure the collaboration keeps running. For planned absences, your legal professional makes arrangements with your SPOC in advance, and for longer absences, another qualified expert takes over based on the existing documentation.
How does quality and responsibility for the work get handled?
CRANIUM retains full responsibility. The key difference with traditional staffing (where you’re often assigned a profile and left to work things out yourself) is that our expert never works in isolation. Your expert is fully supported by the CRANIUM team, and every piece of advice has to meet our quality standards. In practice, that means important deliverables always go through an internal senior review before they reach you, saving your SPOC valuable time.
How quickly can a Digital Law Counsel start?
Once the profile and Service Pack have been agreed with your account manager, a legal professional can typically start within one to two weeks.
