Lubumbe Van de Velde
Senior Privacy Consultant
Lubumbe is a legal professional with 12 years of project-based experience in Fundamental Rights. She has six years of experience in Privacy, three of which are in Data Protection. She graduated with a master’s in International and European Public Law from the University of Antwerp in 2013. After completing the final year of her master’s in Germany, Lubumbe secured her first job in Privacy with a Berlin-based non-profit startup, focusing on policy and legal compliance.
She has since partnered with international NGOs, universities, and government agencies, translating digital strategy into privacy governance, processes, and compliance, working across Europe in Belgium, the Netherlands, the UK, Austria, and Germany.
In September 2017, Lubumbe received a UK Research and Innovation scholarship to write a doctoral thesis on ethics, intersectional inclusion, and non-discrimination. She was awarded her PhD in December 2021.
Upon returning to practice in 2022, Lubumbe combines evidence-based approaches to non-discrimination and equality with hands-on implementation of Privacy and Data Protection. Before joining Cranium in August 2025, Lubumbe supported Flemish government agencies in GDPR compliance. She holds a Data Protection Institute (DPI) certification as a Data Protection Officer and is an ISO 30415:2021 certified Diversity and Inclusion auditor.
Lubumbe thrives in multidisciplinary teams. She best supports team members by translating abstract Privacy concepts into practical solutions. Some of her notable achievements include mapping, streamlining, and automating GDPR compliance processes. She is trilingual in English, Dutch, and German.
Outside of work, Lubumbe enjoys a good read (fiction), experimenting with gluten-free recipes, spending quality time with family, and physical exercise. She is also a 200-hour certified yoga instructor.
